From Coach Logan Hursh!
I’ve seen some ab/core exercises floating around so here are…
Two true abs exercises.
First video is a reverse crunch. One of roles of the rectus abdominis is to bring the pelvis up towards the ribs when the ribs are fixed in place. Stopping the knees at the hip joint will ensure that the hip flexors aren’t engaged in this movement.
The second video is a band crunch. The other role of the abs is to bring the ribs down when the hips are fixed in place. The ability to use bands allows you to truly overload the abs and get an appropriate stimulus compared to most other ab exercises. Additionally, the abs are going through more range of motion at the top (getting a stretch) which is important for strength/hypertrophy.
We hope this helps you and your athletes create their Best Darn Gymnastics!
