Vault Rebound – Shape Change

Here is a great shape change drill for vault. Athletes do a pike bounce onto a fairly soft board. As soon as they feel the rebound, they explode out to an extended stretch with as equal an opening of the hips and shoulders as possible.

One of the main areas of focus on vault is the patience to wait for the rebound before engaging the throw of the hands and uncoil of the body. Many inefficient vaults that come on high and “miss” the block, happen because athletes try to stand up on the board too early. Try to use this drill or some other drills to engage the patience of your gymnasts for the shape change.

Hope this helps you and your athletes create their Best Darn Gymnastics!
