Knee Hop Hurdle Drill

Knee Hop Hurdle Drill

The purpose here is creating balance and power through a hurdle. We encourage arms stacked on top of the shoulders for the hurdle in drills to avoid the early reach and lean. When kids get off balance, they usually sacrifice some other part of their tumbling technique. Leaning often creates a lack of back leg push, hands away from the front leg – this becomes a slower turnover roundoff.

The cartwheel step-in portion of the drill is for the athlete to focus on keeping the hands down and avoiding the early lift away from the feet.

Hope this helps you and your athletes create their Best Darn Gymnastics!
