Parachute FHS Vault Drill

FUN!!!!! This was an old favorite! Brought it out yesterday to give these kids some enjoyment and challenge!

Parachute vaults for the FHS entry. We start with a simple belly slide with the arms out in front. Then we advance it to a 3/4 handstand slide.

The first and last clips are clearly the best!
On the best attempts, you will see a good 3/4 handstand position with body tension where they have good forward momentum, hold the body shape throughout, and can maintain the 3/4 handstand for the length of their slide.

The other various examples are just showing you the different types of efforts you will see.
You can see one athlete gets on to her hands a little too vertical and therefore simply does a handstand flat back and can’t slide. You will see one come on too flat and slides, but has no true 3/4 handstand position. You will see a 3/4 handstand attempt but with a slightly loose core so the legs kinda do a little whip up during the slide.
These mistakes are very common and these are real life examples of day one trying this. Be aware that you need to prep the athletes to be tight to protect themselves from any kind of loose slide and scorpion type action.

FHS vault…
If kids come on too high and land in a handstand, the second half of the vault is very small and has no dynamics.

If kids come on too low, they jam and get stuck on the table, or begin a rollover action to try and save it.

The nice 3/4 position allows for momentum forward and then blocking up to create a dynamic exit by vertical with good power to take them away from the table.

And its fun!!!!!

Hope this helps you and your athletes create Their Best Darn Gymnastics!
