Back Handspring Tension and Alignment

Kids learning back handsprings want to flip over as fast as possible and get back to their feet. Like a cat, they will try to squiggle their body around to get upright again… unfortunately not with the same body control!
When introducing back handsprings, it is crucial to spend time teaching this first half action with proper form and alignment. You see this gymnast working a strong push from the legs, shoulders and hips extending as smooth and equally as possible, the head is neutral between the shoulders. These details allow for safe progressions to take place next. Spend time shaping and detailing this first half of a back handspring!

Hope this helps you and your athletes create their Best Darn Gymnastics!
