Standing Dive Rolls – Front Flipping Prep

One of my favorite front tumbling drills… Standing Dive Rolls!

The goal here is to get the legs lifting and levering overhead as you initiate the dive roll. It is common to see kids pike these over and create some very angular positions. You can see, this athlete creates an awesome long hollow line through the whole body.

This is a very good example of this skill/drill.

These are valuable for getting athletes to think of working their hips up and their legs over the top on front tucks and front layouts. Too many kids try to just get their head down to get their hips over. Watching this athlete, you can see the makings of a great front layout.
