Flyaway Lifters/Timers are incredibly important for teaching flipping dismounts. The concept is based on the athletes learning that when they release from their tap swing, they naturally start to rotate and the coach stops them from flipping. Then they learn that once they hit vertical and they are essentially falling back to earth, they use their tuck to accelerate the flip to finish.
At the time of this video, these were brand new to the “flipping” version of the lifter. So you can really see the attempt at lifter – then shape change.
If athletes don’t trust that they are naturally flipping past vertical without making major body adjustments, they will force some feeling of flip. Which means head throw, closed shoulders, and early tuck usually.
Take the time to go back and froth between lifters and the flipping version constantly. Avoid doing all flips – all the time.
Hope this helps you and your athletes create their Best Darn Gymnastics!
